New Delhi: Northern Railway has initiated legal action against two Instagram account operators for allegedly circulating old and unrelated videos as recent incidents, potentially creating panic and confusion among passengers during the festive season.

According to the railway administration, FIRs were registered against the two handlers on November 4, 2026. The action follows reports that certain social media users were sharing outdated footage of railway stations and trains while presenting it as evidence of current developments.

How Can Misleading Videos Affect Railway Operations?

Railway officials said such misleading posts can create unnecessary confusion among passengers and trigger panic over railway security arrangements and train operations. With passenger numbers rising during the festive season, the circulation of unverified content could further complicate crowd management and public communication.

Northern Railway has reiterated that passenger safety, convenience and smooth movement remain its top priorities. It has warned that people using social media to spread false or misleading information will face action under applicable legal provisions.

Railway Appeals to Social Media Users

The railway administration has urged internet users not to share, repost or circulate videos and news reports without first checking their authenticity. Passengers have also been advised to rely only on official channels for information about railway-related incidents.

Northern Railway has made it clear that attempts to attract attention on social media by spreading misleading content about railway operations will be treated seriously, particularly when passenger safety and public confidence are involved.
