New Delhi: 5 September is a very special day for the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) of Delhi University. The college is completing 100 years of its establishment and on this historic occasion, PM Narendra Modi will attend the centenary celebrations on Saturday. This program is being organised on the occasion of Teacher's Day. The Prime Minister will participate in the program at 7 pm and will also address the people present during this time.
Shriram College of Commerce was established in the year 1926 by industrialist and social worker Sir Shriram. In the journey of a century, this institute has become one of the major centers of study of commerce, economics and management in the country. The college has produced generations of academicians, entrepreneurs, administrators, policy makers and professionals working in different fields.
This year the centenary celebration of SRCC is coinciding with Teacher's Day. In such a situation, the importance of the program has increased further. Teachers Day is an occasion to honor the contribution of teachers and educationists in the country, while the completion of 100 years of SRCC reflects the long journey of the institute in the field of higher education. The Prime Minister's address will be held on this occasion.
Dialogue with students is also being considered an important part of the Prime Minister's program. This will give the youth an opportunity to listen to the Prime Minister on issues related to education, career, innovation and the future of the country. Preparations have been made in the college campus for the presence of the Prime Minister in SRCC and the students are also excited about the visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's association with SRCC is not new. He had attended a business conclave of the college in 2013 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Now after almost 13 years, he is again reaching the college campus as Prime Minister. Earlier, he had also participated in the centenary celebrations of Delhi University in 2023.
SRCC started as a small institute in 1926. With time it expanded and became one of the major colleges of Delhi University. The college is today known throughout the country for studying commerce and economics. On the occasion of its centenary, the history and contributions of the institute are being remembered and the future direction is also being discussed.
The Prime Minister's SRCC visit is taking place at a time when issues related to higher education and youth are in constant discussion in the country. Direct interaction with students can take this program beyond just a formal centenary celebration. However the official main objective of the program is to address the celebrations on the occasion of 100th anniversary of the college and Teachers' Day.
Delhi University has long been counted among the leading higher educational institutions of the country. In such a situation, the presence of the Prime Minister in the centenary celebrations of one of its leading colleges is an important opportunity for the students and teachers. This celebration of 100 years of SRCC has become an event connecting the past, present and future of the college on one platform.
