Safety Awareness Session at Daya Basti Station: Railway Police Reach Out to the Community with a Message of Reassurance

New Delhi: The Railway Police conducted a special awareness campaign regarding women's safety and passenger awareness at Daya Basti Railway Station. As part of the campaign, the Railway Police team visited the slum settlement located along the tracks and engaged directly with women, young girls, and children, sensitising them about safety measures.

Addressing the women, Lalit Kumar, the Station In-charge of Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, stated that the government is working earnestly towards women's safety and empowerment. He emphasized that no woman or girl needs to remain silent out of fear; they should immediately inform the Railway Police if they encounter molestation, indecent behavior, or any other form of harassment. The police assured them that the complainant's identity would be kept confidential and strict action would be taken against the accused in accordance with the law.

The Railway Police also demonstrated sensitivity towards children during the campaign. Officials noted that the tendency of young children to fall into bad company or succumb to substance abuse is a matter of concern. Instead of merely punishing such children, efforts will be made to guide them onto the right path through counseling. Plans were discussed to enlist the help of expert counselors with the assistance of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Additionally, parents were urged to keep a close watch on their children's activities and maintain regular communication with them.

Meanwhile, safety-related information was also disseminated to passengers via loudspeakers within the station premises. Passengers were urged to immediately report any suspicious persons, objects, or criminal activity observed during their journey to the Railway Helpline number 139.
