Tragic Fire at Malviya Nagar: What Prompted To The Restaurant-Cum-Hotel Blaze

A major fire at a five-story restaurant and hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar led to the rescue of over 40 people, multiple casualties, and an announced ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the deceased's families by the PMO.

New Delhi: A major fire broke out at a five storey restaurant situated in the Malviya Nagar area of Delhi. This restaurant was also operating as  a hotel.

How many rescued?

Delhi Fire service managed to get out more than 40 people safely. This rescued have been done in a large scale operation with the help of disaster management team. Several people had reported as a very critically injured.

What Malviya Nagar MLA said?

Satish Upadhyay, MLA, Malviya Nagar, visited personally to the spot. He said that the teams acted promptly after getting this information. “This incident occurred at 8:51 AM, and since 9 AM, we have been here. The fire department and disaster management responded immediately, BSES cut off the electricity supply. The police personnel also carried out a lot of rescue operations, and a total of 47 people have been rescued," he said. Upadhyay added that 20 to 21 people had been injured or killed and that seven to eight people were in serious condition. “The cause has not been ascertained yet, but this is a very tragic incident. The entire government machinery is engaged in rescue operations here," he said.

How is this fire incident triggered?

According to the information received, the spark triggered or have originated from basement area. However it's still not cleared that the blaze was from electricity fault or kitchen related equipment.

Officials are also likely to investigate the situation of the building if it is complied with fire safety rules like avaibility of equipments and emergency exits.

What PMO announced?

The Prime Minister’s Office announced an ex-gratia for the families of the deceased. “The loss of lives due to a fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, is tragic. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000," the Prime Minister’s Office mentioned.
