New Delhi: Following rainfall and strong winds in Delhi, a significant drop in temperature was recorded on Friday, accompanied by an improvement in air quality. Friday marked the coldest day of March in Delhi in the last six years. Concurrently, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 93, falling within the 'satisfactory' category. After nearly five months, residents finally had the opportunity to breathe clean air.

The maximum temperature at Safdarjung stood at 21.7 degrees Celsius. Prior to this, a temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius was recorded on March 8, 2020, while an AQI of 99 was recorded on October 9, 2025.

What were temperature readings across the city?

In various parts of Delhi, the maximum temperature remained significantly below normal levels. Temperatures were recorded at 21.2 degrees Celsius in Palam (nine degrees below normal), 21.0 degrees in Lodhi Road (10.7 degrees below normal), 21.1 degrees in the Ridge area, and 21.5 degrees in Aya Nagar. Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures recorded were 16 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, 14.7 degrees at Palam, 15.8 degrees at Lodhi Road, 15.1 degrees at the Ridge, and 16 degrees at Aya Nagar.

How much rain did the city receive?

The city received 7 mm of rainfall during the day, bringing the total average rainfall for the month so far to 16.2 mm. This marks the wettest March in the three-year period since 2023. According to the Meteorological Department, the air quality is likely to remain in the 'moderate' category from Saturday through March 23. On Saturday, the minimum temperature is expected to be 14 degrees Celsius and the maximum 27 degrees Celsius, with a forecast of partly cloudy skies.
