New Delhi: The Anti-Narcotics Squad of West Delhi Police has busted an alleged interstate cannabis trafficking network, arresting three men and recovering 26.466 kilograms of ganja. An e-rickshaw and three mobile phones were also seized during the operation.

According to police, the network allegedly operated across Odisha, Bihar and Delhi, using courier services to transport cannabis concealed inside packages labelled as ordinary household goods. The consignments were allegedly hidden in boxes containing sarees, sound systems and water-purifier machines before being delivered to local drug suppliers in the capital.

First Arrest Leads to Major Recovery

West District Deputy Commissioner of Police Hareswar V. Swami said the Anti-Narcotics Squad intercepted Chandan Kumar, 22, near a service road in the Khayala area while he was travelling in an e-rickshaw.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 16.906 kg of ganja. Police subsequently searched his rented accommodation and recovered another 5.354 kg.

Following the seizure, a case was registered at Khayala Police Station under FIR No. 445/26, invoking Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. An investigation was launched to trace the supply chain and identify other people involved.

Bihar Link Allegedly Coordinated the Supply Chain

During questioning, Chandan allegedly told investigators that the consignments originated in Odisha and were arranged through Nitesh Kumar, also known as Nilesh, who was based in Bihar.

Police suspect that the network used courier services to move the contraband while disguising it inside boxes intended to contain sarees, sound systems and water purifiers. Investigators allege that Nitesh coordinated deliveries through mobile phones, maintaining contact with associates in Odisha and Delhi.

According to the police, incomplete or incorrect addresses were sometimes written on the parcels, prompting courier staff to contact the phone numbers provided to arrange delivery. Nitesh was subsequently arrested in Bihar as the investigation progressed.

How Did Police Trace the Third Consignment?

Investigators later received information about another shipment allegedly containing ganja concealed inside a water-purifier box being sent from Odisha to Delhi. The team checked several courier offices and identified a suspected delivery point in the Khayala area.

Police laid a trap near S-Block in Vishnu Garden and apprehended Vicky Kumar, 22, who had allegedly arrived to collect the parcel. A search of the package led to the recovery of another 4.206 kg of ganja, taking the total seizure in the case to 26.466 kg.

Police allege that Vicky collected consignments on Nitesh's instructions and supplied the cannabis to local drug dealers in Delhi. Investigators also reported finding suspicious WhatsApp conversations on the mobile phones seized from the three accused.

Specialised Team Led the Operation

The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of West District DCP Hareswar V. Swami, with guidance from ACP Operations Rajesh Kumar and leadership from Anti-Narcotics Squad Inspector Amit Dhani.

The team included Sub-Inspectors Sandeep Dalal and Chandrashekhar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil, Head Constables Vinod, Vikas, Karan, Vinay and Jai Prakash, Constables Vikas, Ankit and Deepak Goswami, and Women Head Constables Bharti and Kavita.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the source of the cannabis, trace the courier-based deliveries and identify other individuals allegedly connected with the trafficking network.
