Fatehabad: Fatehabad Police organised a cricket match at the Police Lines on Sunday as part of Police Martyrs’ Fortnight, paying tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation and society. The event was held under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Nikita Khatkar, IPS, and also aimed to encourage sporting activities among young people and spread awareness about staying away from drugs.

DSP Jagdish Kumar, City Fatehabad Police Station SHO Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar and other police officers and personnel attended the event. Players participated with enthusiasm, demonstrating teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the match. At the conclusion, DSP Jagdish Kumar presented the trophy to the winning team and encouraged all participants.

Martyrs’ Sacrifice Remains a Source of Inspiration

Addressing the gathering, DSP Jagdish Kumar said the sacrifice of police personnel who laid down their lives to protect the country, maintain law and order and safeguard citizens would never be forgotten.

He said Police Martyrs’ Fortnight was not only an occasion to remember the fallen personnel but also an opportunity to draw inspiration from their courage, dedication and commitment to duty. He added that the most meaningful tribute to the martyrs was to follow their ideals and serve society with honesty and dedication.

How Can Sports Help Keep Young People Away From Drugs?

DSP Jagdish Kumar emphasised that sports contribute to both physical fitness and mental strength. Discipline, patience, confidence and teamwork developed on the playing field can help young people face challenges and make constructive choices.

He said involving young people in sports was important in efforts to prevent substance abuse. While addiction can adversely affect health, families and future prospects, sporting activities can channel young people’s energy into positive pursuits and encourage them to become healthy, disciplined and responsible citizens.

He urged young people to stay away from drugs and devote their time and abilities to sports, education and other constructive activities.

Fitness and Teamwork Also Matter in Police Service

The DSP also encouraged police personnel to participate regularly in sporting activities. He noted that physical fitness, mental resilience and coordination are essential for handling the demanding responsibilities of police service.

Such events, he said, can help personnel manage stress while strengthening camaraderie, discipline and unity within the force.

Collective Responsibility for a Drug-Free Society

Jagdish Kumar stressed that building a drug-free society requires collective efforts from the police, parents, teachers, young people and the wider community.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to honour the courage and sacrifice of police martyrs by following their ideals. Participants also called for a healthier society through the messages: “Honour the Martyrs, Build a Drug-Free Society” and “Embrace Sports, Defeat Drugs.”
