New Delhi: A major accident occurred during the Surajkund Mela in Faridabad, Haryana. A ride at the fair suddenly broke down, causing panic among the crowd. Many people were near the ride at the time of the accident, resulting in several serious injuries.

Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad died during the rescue operation. DC Ayush Singh stated that a total of 13 people were injured in the accident, one of whom succumbed to their injuries.

What did the eyewitnesses say?

Eyewitnesses reported that as soon as the ride broke, there were screams and chaos. People panicked and ran in all directions. Upon receiving information about the incident, police officers arrived at the scene and immediately began rescue operations. A police inspector was also seriously injured during this time. Approximately six other people were also injured, some of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

How have the authorities responded?

Upon receiving news of the accident, the District Commissioner, the Managing Director of the Tourism Department, and senior police officers immediately rushed to the scene. The administration cordoned off the entire area to prevent further incidents and ensure that relief efforts proceeded without interruption. The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals for primary treatment.

This accident raises serious questions about the security arrangements at the fair. It's worth remembering that a similar incident occurred previously at the Surajkund fair's food court when a gate collapsed due to strong winds, highlighting a lapse in security. These recurring incidents are increasing concerns about the safety of the fair.

The administration has clarified that a thorough investigation into the accident will be conducted, and action will be taken against the ride operators if necessary. It will also be ensured that safety standards were properly followed. Currently, the area around the affected ride has been cordoned off.

Fairgoers are frightened by the accident, and many families, especially those with elderly people and children, were seen leaving the fair immediately. The administration has appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumors and to follow the instructions of the security officials.
