Yamunanagar: Accompanied by a heavy police force, administrative officials and a municipal team used bulldozers to demolish over 150 illegal encroachments on government land in Radaur's Deha Basti. Within a few hours, temporary structures and encroachments that had stood for years were reduced to rubble. The administration states that the land in question belongs to the municipality and had been under illegal occupation for a long time. Notices had previously been issued to the concerned individuals, but the decision to use bulldozers was taken because the encroachments had not been removed.

Whay was there stone-pelting at the police team?

This operation was carried out shortly after an incident four days ago where a Karnal CIA team was pelted with stones in the same settlement. The police team had arrived to arrest an accused person named in an NDPS Act case. It is alleged that some individuals resisted the police and attempted to challenge law and order by pelting stones in a bid to free the accused.

Did the Haryana Police ensure tight security arrangements?

Following the incident, the administration reviewed activities across the area and assessed the extent of encroachments on government land. The action initiated on Saturday is considered part of that same process. Stringent security arrangements were put in place during the operation. A police force remained deployed at the site throughout, while administrative officials supervised the drive. Although some individuals attempted to register their protest, the administration proceeded with the action according to the planned schedule.

Focus on drug trafficking and other criminal activities?

Locals state that Deha Basti has long been in the spotlight due to drug trafficking and various criminal activities.
The area had been under administrative surveillance after the names of some local residents surfaced in connection with several cases. Consequently, this action is viewed as a significant step towards strengthening law and order.
Meanwhile, affected families argue that the demolition has also impacted those who were earning an honest living through manual labor.
They believe that action against those involved in illegal activities should be separate and more stringent. Encroachments on government land removed

The administration states that illegal encroachments on government land will not be tolerated under any circumstances. According to officials, surveillance of the reclaimed land will be stepped up, and permanent measures will be put in place to prevent future encroachment. Additionally, other illegal constructions are being identified, and preparations for further action are underway.
