Ratia (Haryana): The 10th National Sub-Junior and Junior Gatka Championship will be organised in Ratia with the aim of promoting the traditional martial art of Gatka and providing a national platform for sporting talent from across the country. Organised by the Gatka Association of Haryana in collaboration with the Gatka Federation of India, this competition will take place from October 15 to 17, 2026, at the Guru Nanak Defence and Sports Academy, Ratia. More than 1,000 Gatka players from 25 states are expected to participate in the championship. There is an atmosphere of excitement among sports enthusiasts and players associated with Gatka regarding this national event.
In this three-day competition, talented players from various states will demonstrate their athletic prowess, technique, agility, and self-defence skills. The primary objective of the competition is to give a new identity to the traditional Indian martial art of Gatka at the national level, encourage young players, and foster interest in the sport among the new generation.
Additionally, players will have the opportunity to hone their talents and learn from competitors from other states. Swarn Singh, Chairman of the Gatka Association of Haryana, stated that the National Gatka Championship is not merely a sports competition but a significant platform to promote the country's traditional martial art, discipline, and sportsmanship. He remarked that this event would help identify emerging sporting talent and prepare them for future national and other high-level competitions.
He noted that Gatka plays a crucial role in developing self-confidence, concentration, discipline, and physical fitness among players. National-level competitions provide players with the opportunity to showcase their talent, understand the nuances of the sport, and improve their performance. Hosting this prestigious national competition in Ratiya will bring national recognition to the city. The arrival of players and accompanying representatives from various states will boost sports activities in the region.
Spanning three days, this championship will convey a message of traditional sports culture, mutual brotherhood, unity, and sportsmanship. The organisers hope that this event will inspire the youth to engage with sports and carry forward the glorious tradition of Gatka.
