Haryana: A daughter from the Ratia area has made her mark at the 10th Senior National Gatka Championship held at the renowned Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
Khushboo Gill, daughter of Ratia resident Titu Gill, delivered an impressive performance in the Free-Soti Team Event and won a silver medal. Hundreds of players from different states across the country participated in the national-level competition.
At the championship, Haryana players also made their mark by winning medals in various categories, including Free-Soti, Single Soti and Farri-Soti.
Meanwhile, at the prestigious championship, Titu Gill, State General Secretary of the Congress Confederation, was invited by the Gatka Federation of India as a special guest. He was felicitated on stage from the opening ceremony through the medal ceremony.
Titu Gill said it was a moment of double happiness for him. On one hand, he was honoured as a guest, while on the other, his daughter won a medal at the national level, bringing pride to the region. He said the achievement was the result of the hard work of Gatka Association Haryana, which is reaching villages and encouraging children to take up this traditional Sikh martial art.
He said Gatka is no longer just a sport but has become an identity of our culture, while also helping young people stay away from drugs and become involved in sports.
There is a wave of happiness in the region following his daughter’s achievement, and various social organisations have extended their congratulations.
