Four Dead in Delhi Building Collapse; Rescue Operations Underway in Mustafabad

National News: A major tragedy struck the Mustafabad area of Northeast Delhi early Saturday morning as a four-storey building came crashing down, killing four people and leaving several others trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are still in progress, with authorities working tirelessly to locate and save those who may still be buried beneath the rubble.

Incident Occurred Around 3 AM

According to the police, the collapse took place at approximately 3 AM in the Shakti Vihar locality of Mustafabad. The four-storey structure crumbled unexpectedly, causing panic in the surrounding neighborhood. Locals immediately alerted the authorities, following which emergency teams rushed to the spot.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Sandeep Lamba stated that 14 people have been rescued so far, but unfortunately, four among them were declared dead. The building is believed to have housed multiple families, and around 8–10 people are still suspected to be trapped beneath the rubble.

Multiple Rescue Agencies on the Ground

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police are on-site, conducting extensive search and rescue operations. Sniffer dogs and heavy machinery have been deployed to speed up the process. Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal confirmed that the building was fully reduced to rubble by the time rescue teams arrived.

Authorities are using advanced equipment to detect movement or signs of life under the debris. Residents in nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precautionary measure, and traffic in the surrounding area has been diverted to ensure smooth rescue operations.

Cause of Collapse Yet to Be Determined

Officials have yet to confirm whether the building was structurally unsound or if recent weather events played a role in its fall. Investigations will begin once the rescue mission is complete.Interestingly, Delhi experienced sudden weather changes on Friday night, including heavy rainfall and strong winds. These extreme weather conditions may have weakened vulnerable structures in certain areas. 

Urgent Need for Structural Inspections

This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of aging or unauthorized buildings in densely populated areas like Mustafabad. Officials are calling for a comprehensive survey of old structures and construction practices in the region. Residents have also been advised to report any signs of damage or instability in nearby buildings.

The local community has been left shocked and heartbroken by the sudden disaster. NGOs and local volunteers have stepped in to provide water, food, and emotional support to affected families and rescue workers.Authorities have assured that all necessary support will be extended to the injured and the families of the deceased. Relief camps are also being set up in the vicinity to assist those who have lost their homes.
