Bodies Collected In 17 Bags After Crash Burns 13 Alive On Mathura Expressway

The horrific accident occurred at milestone 127 on the Yamuna Expressway under Baldev police station limits in Mathura. Early morning hours saw extremely poor visibility due to thick fog. One bus reportedly applied sudden brakes. Vehicles coming from behind failed to notice it in time. Within moments, eight buses and three cars rammed into each other. The impact was massive. Sparks quickly turned into flames. The entire stretch was engulfed in smoke and chaos.

How Terrifying Was The Scene After Collision?

Eyewitnesses described the moment as nothing short of an explosion. Bus windows shattered instantly. Passengers screamed and jumped out to save their lives. Several people were trapped inside burning vehicles. Within minutes, buses turned into blazing shells. Many bodies were completely charred. Police later recovered severed body parts from the wreckage. These remains were collected in 17 polythene bags, highlighting the scale of devastation.

How Long Did The Rescue Operation Take?

Police, fire brigade teams and SDRF rushed to the spot after receiving information. Around 50 personnel from nine police stations were deployed. Firefighters struggled to control the flames. Rescue operations continued for nearly six hours. Locals alleged that help arrived late. Many believe timely rescue could have saved more lives. Authorities, however, stated that dense fog and fire made operations extremely difficult.

Where Are The Injured Being Treated?

Around 70 people were injured in the accident. Eleven ambulances were pressed into service immediately. The injured were taken to Mathura District Hospital and the joint district hospital in Vrindavan. Those with severe burn injuries were referred to Agra Medical College. Doctors confirmed that several victims remain in critical condition. Officials fear the death toll may rise further.

How Will The Victims Be Identified?

Many bodies were burnt beyond recognition. In several cases, identification was not possible through physical features. Police confirmed that DNA testing will be conducted to establish identities. One of the deceased has been identified as a BJP leader. Families of victims were seen crying inconsolably at hospitals. The administration has begun preserving remains as per protocol for forensic examination.

What Steps Did Government And Administration Take?

The accident caused a traffic jam stretching nearly three kilometers on the Yamuna Expressway. Authorities ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. ADM Administration Amresh has been assigned to lead the probe. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced compensation of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Instructions were also issued to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured.
