Muskan Could Face Execution at Mathura Jail; First Woman to Be Executed There Since Independence

Mathura: The women's execution chamber at Mathura District Jail has come into focus following the death sentences awarded to Muskan and her lover, Sahil, in the high-profile Saurabh Rajput murder case in Meerut. Mathura District Jail has a special facility for the execution of female prisoners in Uttar Pradesh. However, no woman prisoner has been executed there since India's Independence. The situation will become clearer only after the death sentences are confirmed and all legal procedures are completed.

Saurabh Rajput Murder Case Shook Uttar Pradesh

Saurabh Rajput was murdered in Meerut on March 3, 2025. In an attempt to conceal the crime, the accused allegedly dismembered his body and placed the remains inside a blue drum. They also poured a cement mixture into the drum in an attempt to dispose of the body.

The shocking incident sent shockwaves across the state. On Wednesday, a court sentenced Muskan and Sahil to death in connection with the case. Following the verdict, attention turned to the women's execution chamber at Mathura District Jail.

Special Facility for Executing Female Prisoners

Mathura District Jail already has arrangements for the execution of female prisoners. However, the facility has not been used to execute a woman since Independence.

If Muskan's death sentence is eventually carried out, it would mark the first execution of a woman at Mathura Jail since India's Independence.

According to Jail Superintendent Anshuman Garg, Muskan could be executed at Mathura District Jail if there are no legal obstacles and all required formalities are completed.

Death Sentence Cannot Be Carried Out Immediately

Even after a court awards the death penalty, the sentence cannot be implemented immediately. A death sentence handed down by a sessions court must be confirmed by the High Court. The convicts also have legal options, including appeals and mercy petitions.

Therefore, the possibility of Muskan being executed at Mathura District Jail will depend on the completion of the judicial process.

For now, the women's execution chamber has attracted renewed attention, but no date for the execution or final decision on its implementation can be confirmed at this stage.
