Maharashtra: Retired merchant navy officer Ashok Kharat, popularly known as 'Captain Kharat', has been arrested in Nashik, Maharashtra on serious charges. He has been accused of exploiting and threatening many women by luring them in the name of religious rituals.
This whole matter started with the complaint of a woman. She alleged that Kharat kept her in his trap for many years and did wrong things by giving her intoxicants. After this, gradually more women also came forward and made similar allegations, due to which the matter became more serious.
During investigation, mention of a special type of Turkish honey came to light, which Kharat used to sell as 'miraculous'. He claimed that it improved health and strength. It is being said that this honey is very expensive and is available only in limited quantity in a year. But the police suspect that he was collecting huge amount of money from people in this name.
According to the information, many influential people also used to visit him. He won people's trust by portraying himself as knowledgeable and trustworthy. Taking advantage of this trust, he established his own network.
During the investigation, the police also recovered a revolver and cartridges from him. Apart from this, some such things have also been found that raise suspicion that he was involved in rituals related to superstition. The police are now deeply investigating this entire network and the people associated with it.
At present the accused is in police custody and he is being continuously interrogated. Officials believe that as the investigation progresses, many more shocking things may come to light in this case.
After this case came to light, questions have also been raised on financial transactions involving a government official. Due to this, his post has been changed. It is clear from this that the matter is not limited to just one person but can spread to many places.
