New Delhi: A teacher of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot dead on the campus by unidentified assailants on Wednesday. The incident sent a wave of shock through students and staff and triggered an urgent police probe.
The man killed has been identified as Rao Danish Ali, a computer science teacher at the ABK Union High School, a school affiliated with AMU. He had been teaching there for around 11 years and was well-known among colleagues.
Police say the attack occurred around 8:50-9 pm near the library canteen, close to the Maulana Azad Library within the Civil Lines police station area of the campus. Danish was walking with two colleagues when two men on a scooter approached them with pistols. After a brief exchange, the gunmen opened fire and ran away. Danish was hit multiple times, including shots to the head.
Witnesses and investigators quoted one of the men as saying to the teacher before firing, "You don't know me yet, now you will." The chilling words have raised questions about whether the attack was personal, though police have not confirmed any motive.
The injured teacher was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. University officials and police were quick to seal off the area and begin gathering evidence.
According to NDTV, Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon said multiple police teams are scanning CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to trace the attackers. At least six teams have been deployed to investigate every lead, including possible personal motives. He also confirmed that both men shot at Rao.
