Amritsar: Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, the Chief Spokesperson and MLA for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, lauded the Punjab Police for unearthing a major cyber-terrorism network and arresting the prime accused from West Bengal.

What did Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal say?

Addressing a press conference in Amritsar on Friday, MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated that the Aam Aadmi Party government, led by Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, has consistently pledged from the very beginning that no individual attempting to spread terror—whether through shootings, bombings, or any other means—or seeking to destabilize the state's atmosphere will be spared.

He noted that in the current era, cyber-terrorism has emerged as a significant new challenge, involving the issuance of hoax bomb threats targeting schools, colleges, and government buildings. Bravely confronting this challenge, the courageous personnel of the Amritsar Police have successfully apprehended the prime accused behind this major cyber-terrorism network, arresting him in West Bengal.

Dhaliwal revealed that the arrested individual is a 30-year-old man who maintained contacts across several countries—including Pakistan and Bangladesh—as well as various Indian states. This individual was a member of a large criminal syndicate that utilized emails and WhatsApp groups to spread terror across multiple states, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. He is the very same individual who had issued threats to blow up the Punjab Secretariat, the Legislative Assembly, and Sri Darbar Sahib.

How big a threat is cyber-terrorism?

Dhaliwal explicitly stated that curbing cyber-terrorism is a far more arduous task than combating conventional terrorism, given that an individual situated anywhere—be it in the US, Canada, or any other country—can issue threats via digital channels. Despite this inherent difficulty, the Punjab Police have achieved a major breakthrough in tackling this challenge. He conveyed a reassuring message to the people of Punjab and Amritsar, urging them not to panic, as the AAP government remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of every citizen.

Referring to the ongoing campaign against narcotics, Dhaliwal highlighted that the Mann government has successfully put major drug traffickers behind bars—an achievement that had remained elusive under any previous administration. He also appealed to the Central Government to provide modern anti-drone technology and weaponry to the BSF personnel deployed along Punjab's 332-kilometer-long border—equipment that has not yet been supplied.
