The incident is reported to have taken place late on the night of September 5. The Canadian police have confirmed the shooting and considered it a targeted attack in the initial investigation. According to police, the shooters were riding a dark-colored SUV. They fired at a second vehicle and fled the scene.

Ami Virk was also present in the car that was fired upon, according to a Live Hindustan report, which said seven bullets were fired and seven bullet marks were found on the car. However, the Canadian police have not yet made the identities of the people in the car public.
