Punjab: Punjab's sacred Buddha Dariya, which had become a stain due to its dirt, now looks in a new form. Rajya Sabha MP and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal said that with the help of local devotees, a big part of the river has been cleaned in just one year of hard work.
The biggest thing is that where standing was not possible before, now boats are running there and water creatures and birds have started coming. This change shows that when public participation and Aam Aadmi Party's honest politics come together, environmental miracles can happen.
Sant Seechewal shared pictures on his social media showing how clean water is now flowing in some parts of Buddha Dariya, the banks have turned green, and small boats are floating in the water.
He said, “Ludhiana's sacred Buddha Dariya, which had become a stain due to its dirt, now a part of it looks in a new form. Devotees have cleaned some part of it with me in one year. Today boats are running in the river, where standing was difficult before. Water creatures and birds have arrived—this is the result of devotees' power and God's grace.”
Aam Aadmi Party MP Sant Seechewal's mission is not just a cleanup drive, but a unique example of community-based environmental protection. In the last one year, thousands of volunteers helped in cleaning the river, removed tons of garbage, cleaned the banks, and planted trees. Sant Ji said this work was done without any government contracts or corruption, completely with public participation. “We did not ask for any big budget, just took devotees along and started the work. This is Aam Aadmi Party's ideology—to work with the people, for the people,” he said.
Local residents are very happy and are praising Sant Seechewal and AAP's initiative. Gurmeet Singh from Jagroan Road said, “Sant Ji has done what old governments could not do in 50 years. The smell here had made our lives difficult, today there is freshness in the air and we can take our children to the river bank.”
Elderly woman Prakash Kaur from Sherpur village said emotionally, “I bathed in this river 60 years ago. Today, due to Sant Ji's hard work, it is coming alive again. This is God's miracle and AAP's honesty.”
Environmental experts have called this initiative historic. Professor Dr Harpreet Singh from the Environmental Science Department of Punjab Agricultural University said, “The return of water creatures and birds in Buddha Dariya is proof that water quality is improving. Boats running shows that water flow and depth have improved. This is the most successful example of community-based environmental protection so far.” He said that if this pace continues, Buddha Dariya can become a healthy living river again in coming years.
The Aam Aadmi Party government has also fully supported Sant Seechewal's mission. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal Ji's contribution in environmental protection is unmatched. Our Aam Aadmi Party government is providing all possible help in his sacred work. The revival of Buddha Dariya shows that when leaders are connected to the ground and work with the people, the impossible becomes possible.” He said the government has set up sewage treatment plants, taken strict action on industrial pollution, and implemented zero discharge policy, which is strengthening Sant Ji's efforts.
Praising the Aam Aadmi Party government, Sant Seechewal said, “Old governments only talked, but Mann Sahab and AAP government have really worked. They have installed sewage treatment plants, taken action against polluting industries, and given administrative support to our campaign. This government is the servant of the people, not of any mafia.” He said AAP's politics is based on honesty and public service, so difficult tasks like Buddha Dariya are becoming possible.
Local youth and women have also actively participated in this campaign. Youth volunteer Manpreet Singh from Ludhiana said, “We come every week with Sant Ji for cleaning. It is a matter of pride for us to contribute to saving our sacred river. Sant Ji's inspiration and Mann government's support give us strength.” Women volunteers said this is not just cleaning, but a pious work to leave a clean heritage for future generations.
At the end, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal appealed to all Punjabis to join this sacred work and not let the river get dirty again. He said, “What we have achieved in one year is just the beginning. There is still a lot of work left. I request everyone not to throw garbage or plastic in the river, consider every drop of water sacred. When devotees, government, and society stand together, no mission is impossible. The revival of Buddha Dariya is its proof and it will inspire the whole country.”
