Chandigarh: Police have now registered a case under sections of kidnapping and murder in the death of Chandigarh's Punjabi influencer Manjeet Kaur. On the complaint of Manjeet Kaur's mother Kanta Devi, an FIR has been registered in the Sector-34 police station. The family alleges that two known people called Manjeet near a liquor vend in Sector-34 and from there forcibly took her towards the forest of Morinda. It is alleged that there she was tied to a tree and set on fire. The incident is said to have happened late night on July 3.
According to the family, Manjeet Kaur was seriously burnt after the incident. She was first taken to the hospital in Morinda. Due to serious condition, she was referred to PGI from there. After this, she was also treated at Max Hospital in Mohali. On July 9, she was again admitted to PGI. After undergoing treatment for about a month, she regained consciousness on August 5.
Manjeet's mother alleges that after regaining consciousness, her daughter wanted to give her statement to the police. According to the family, this information was also given to Kharar Sadar police station from PGI post. It is alleged that despite receiving information over phone, the investigating officer did not reach the hospital.
The family says that a DDR was also registered in this regard at the PGI post. In such a situation, questions are being raised about the functioning of the police and why Manjeet's statement was not taken while she was alive.
This matter is now at the center of investigation. After the incident on July 3, Manjeet remained hospitalised for a long time. On August 5, she was said to be in a position to give a statement after regaining consciousness. Despite this, no murder case was registered till 26 August.
Manjeet Kaur died during treatment on 26 August. After his death, Chandigarh Police registered a case of kidnapping and murder on the complaint of the family.
Manjeet's mother has made serious allegations against two people named Shubhi and Pinda. According to the complaint, both of them had called Manjeet to Sector-34. After this she was taken from there to the forest area of Morinda. The family alleges that at this very place she was tied to a tree and set on fire.
The police are now investigating these allegations made in the complaint. What was the reason behind the incident and how many people were involved in it is also part of the investigation.
Police are examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in and around Sector-34. In the investigation, efforts are being made to find out in which vehicle Manjeet was taken from there. For this, apart from the cameras installed on the way, the footage of the toll plaza can also be checked.
Police can also collect information about the activities of the accused and the people who came in contact with them after the incident.
According to Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, a case of kidnapping and murder has been registered after receiving the complaint of Manjeet Kaur's mother. Police are investigating all aspects related to the case. CCTV footage and other available evidence are also being included in the investigation.
During the investigation, the police will also find out whether the information about the incident was given to the concerned police station by Morinda Hospital, Max Hospital in Mohali and PGI. If the police were informed in time, what action was taken on it, this will also be an important part of the investigation.
After the death of Manjeet Kaur, the family is now demanding strict action against the accused. At the same time, the biggest challenge before the police is to connect the entire chain of the incident and collect concrete evidence to confirm the allegations.
