New Delhi : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Lucknow unit, has secured a conviction in a drug trafficking case dating back to 2017, with a court sentencing two accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each. The case involved the seizure of heroin and cannabis at Barabanki railway station in Uttar Pradesh.
On October 19, 2026, the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge in Barabanki convicted Shakeel, a resident of Chandwara, and Ram Pyari, a resident of Palhari in the Safdarganj police station area of Barabanki district.
According to the NCB, the case dates back to May 27, 2017, when a team from the agency's Lucknow unit acted on specific intelligence and conducted an operation on a platform at Barabanki railway station.
During the operation, officials recovered 340 grams of heroin and 160 grams of cannabis from the possession of the two accused. They were travelling on the Avadh Assam Express and were getting off at Barabanki station when the action was taken.
The narcotic substances were concealed in black bags. The investigation revealed that the consignment had been brought to Barabanki from Dimapur in Nagaland.
During the trial, the prosecution highlighted the seriousness of drug trafficking and its harmful impact on society. It sought strict punishment for the accused based on the evidence presented before the court.
After examining the evidence and circumstances of the case, the court found both accused guilty and sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each.
