The Special Intensive Revision of voter lists in Uttar Pradesh officially ended on Friday. The deadline had already been extended twice earlier. This time, authorities decided not to grant another extension. The process of filling and submitting enumeration forms has now been completed. Election officials said enough time was given. Extending the deadline further was not considered necessary. The focus has now shifted to publishing the draft electoral roll.

How Many Voters Will Be Removed From The List?

At present, the voter list in Uttar Pradesh contains around 15.44 crore names. Out of these, about 2.89 crore names are set to be removed. These include voters who have shifted residence, passed away, or appear multiple times. Officials said the revision aims to ensure accuracy. Cleaning the list is considered essential before upcoming elections. The move will significantly change the size of the electorate.

Which Categories Of Voters Are Affected?

Among the names to be removed, around 1.26 crore voters have migrated. About 46 lakh are reported deceased. Nearly 23.70 lakh are duplicate entries. Another 83.73 lakh voters were found absent during verification. Around 9.57 lakh fall under other categories. These figures were shared by the state election authorities. Each category was verified separately to avoid mistakes.

When Will Draft And Final Lists Be Released?

According to Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, the draft voter list will be published on December 31. Claims and objections can be filed from December 31 to January 30, 2026. Decisions on notices and objections will continue until February 21, 2026. The final voter list will be released on February 28, 2026. Officials said transparency will be maintained throughout the process.

Why Will Notices Be Sent To 1.11 Crore Voters?

About 1.11 crore voters will receive notices from the Election Commission of India. These voters could not be fully verified through mapping. They will be asked to submit documents to prove voter identity. Notices will be delivered to homes. This step is meant to avoid wrongful deletion. Authorities said cooperation from voters is essential to keep names intact.

How Was Door To Door Verification Done?

The Election Commission carried out door-to-door verification across districts. Booth Level Officers worked with Booth Level Agents of political parties. Lists of doubtful voters were shared booth-wise. Officials visited homes to confirm details. The exercise aimed to remove errors. On December 11, the number of names to be deleted was higher. Later, nearly seven lakh voters were traced during verification.

What About New Voter Registration In UP?

More than 11 lakh people have already applied to be added to the voter list. Youth turning 18 on January 1, 2026, are eligible to apply. New voters are filling Form-6. District officials have been directed to ensure availability of forms. Declarations are being taken along with applications. Authorities said adding genuine new voters is a priority alongside list purification.
