Mathura: Family members have been accused of murdering a newlywed woman in the Nai Basti area under the Govind Nagar police station limits in Mathura over her love marriage. The woman had married her boyfriend of her own choice around one-and-a-half months ago and was living with her husband in Delhi. The family allegedly lured her back to Mathura by promising to arrange a grand wedding ceremony for the couple, before strangling her to death. After the alleged murder, her body was buried in a cemetery in Nai Basti.

Following a complaint by her husband, police launched an investigation into the case. The police have taken the victim’s brother, Akram, into custody. The woman’s body has been exhumed from the cemetery under the supervision of a magistrate and sent for post-mortem examination.

Family Allegedly Lured Woman Back to Mathura, Strangled Her to Death

According to police, Nazia, a resident of Nai Basti, had left home with her boyfriend, Ravindra, around one-and-a-half months ago. The couple married with mutual consent and subsequently began living in Delhi.

Around 15 days after Nazia left home, her family members reportedly contacted her. They allegedly assured her that they would arrange a grand wedding ceremony for the couple in accordance with social customs and traditions. Trusting their assurances, Nazia returned to Mathura.

However, her family members allegedly murdered her after she returned home and buried her body in a cemetery to conceal the crime.

According to Nazia’s husband, Ravindra, he tried to contact his wife after she returned to Mathura, but her family members stopped answering his calls. When he was unable to communicate with her for several days, he began to suspect that something had gone wrong.

Ravindra subsequently filed a police complaint in Rajasthan, expressing suspicion that his wife had been abducted and murdered. Taking the matter seriously, police initiated an investigation after receiving the complaint.

Govind Nagar police station in-charge Ajay Kumar Verma took the victim’s brother, Akram, into custody for questioning. Police claim that during interrogation, the accused admitted to his alleged involvement in the crime. Investigators are also examining the possible role of other people in the case.

Body Exhumed Under Magistrate’s Supervision, Post-Mortem Awaited

City Superintendent of Police Rajiv Kumar Singh said that, following an order issued by City Magistrate Anupam Mishra, the woman’s body was exhumed from the cemetery under the supervision of a magistrate.

The body was taken into police custody and sent for a post-mortem examination. The report is expected to help establish the cause of death.

Police are investigating all aspects of the case, gathering evidence against the accused and examining the possible involvement of other suspects.
