New Delhi: This time the heat of May in North India has started breaking old records. The situation is such that the roads appear empty in the afternoon and people are forced to stay in their homes. In the latest data of the Meteorological Department, many districts of Uttar Pradesh have been found to be among the hottest areas of the country.
The mercury reached close to 48 degrees Celsius in Banda, while cities like Etawah, Mainpuri, Fatehpur and Prayagraj also remained in the grip of severe heat wave. Weather experts say that there is little hope of relief in the coming few days and the effect of hot winds may continue.
This time the dominance of Uttar Pradesh was visible in the list of hottest cities of the world. Most of the districts included in the top 100 were from UP. In cities like Banda, Etawah, Etah, Sambhal, Auraiya and Prayagraj, the temperature continues to remain above 45 degrees Celsius. During the afternoon the conditions become such that it becomes difficult to go out on the road. Local people are also admitting that this time the heat of May is feeling more scorching than in the last many years.
Banda district of Bundelkhand has once again come into discussion. The temperature here reached around 48 degrees Celsius. The hot winds that continued throughout the day increased the problems of the people. There was less crowd in the markets and at many places people were seen seeking relief in the shade of trees. People of the area say that going out of the house in the afternoon feels like walking on a hot pan.
Weather experts believe that the rocky land and less greenery of Bundelkhand are also major reasons for the extreme heat. The earth here heats up rapidly throughout the day and continues to release heat till late night. The falling water level and dry conditions in many areas have also increased the difficulty. Experts say that the continuously decreasing greenery and increasing hot winds can make the situation more serious in the future.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra are also facing the brunt of the scorching heat. The temperature is continuously increasing in cities like Nagpur, Akola and Amravati. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert in many areas. Doctors say that dehydration and heatstroke patients have started increasing in hospitals. Especially children and the elderly are being told the need to be more careful.
According to the Meteorological Department, at present the effect of heat will continue in North and Central India. There is a possibility of strong sunshine and hot winds for the next few days. Experts have advised people not to go out without essential work in the afternoon, keep drinking water continuously and keep the body covered. Meteorologists believe that if no strong western disturbance becomes active soon, then the possibility of a major drop in temperature is not visible at the moment.
