Muzaffarnagar: Serious concerns have emerged over the quality of a road constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) in Vigyana village, under Budhana tehsil of Muzaffarnagar district. The approximately three-kilometre stretch reportedly began developing cracks and breaking apart at several places within just 24 hours of the construction work being completed.
A local resident recorded a video showing the damaged condition of the newly built road and shared it on social media, where it quickly gained attention. The incident has triggered questions about construction standards and the department's supervision of the project.
Residents have questioned how a road completed just a day earlier could begin deteriorating so soon. The visible damage has raised concerns about the materials and workmanship used during construction, although the exact reason for the deterioration has not yet been established.
Budhana Sub-Divisional Magistrate Satyendra Kumar Singh said on Sunday at around 3 pm that the matter would be examined through the PWD division responsible for the construction. He added that further action would be considered after the findings of the investigation.
The complaint has also brought attention to the monitoring of public infrastructure projects. The state government has repeatedly highlighted its zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, making the alleged early deterioration of the road a matter of public concern.
For now, the cause of the damage remains unclear. The investigation is expected to establish whether construction-related shortcomings or other factors led to the road's poor condition.
