Bareilly: Religious controversy has arisen after the marriage of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan. National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi has expressed his objection to this marriage and has called it illegitimate as per Islamic Shariat. Maulana says that there are some prescribed rules in Islam regarding marriage between a Muslim man and a non-Muslim woman, which must be followed.
According to Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, Omar Abdullah is a Muslim, while Nidhi Razdan is a non-Muslim. He claimed that according to Islamic beliefs, marriage in such a situation is not considered legitimate. Maulana said that Omar Abdullah should have got Nidhi Razdan converted to Islam before marriage. According to him, only after this happened could the marriage be performed under Islamic customs.
After this statement of Maulana, the discussion regarding their marriage has intensified. However, it is important to note that Maulana's comments are a religious opinion. This should not be interpreted as a judgement on the legal validity of the marriage.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared pictures of his wedding on social media platform X on October 31. He wrote in the post that a new journey has begun and tagged Nidhi Razdan. Nidhi also shared the pictures and wrote, 'It's done, bro'.
According to reports, both of them got married on October 30 under the Special Marriage Act. Close members of both the families attended the ceremony. 56-year-old Omar Abdullah's first marriage was to Payal Nath, which was ended following a Supreme Court order in July this year. At the same time, this is also the second marriage of 49-year-old Nidhi Razdan.
Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi had earlier also given a statement regarding actress Sara Ali Khan's visit to Kedarnath temple. At that time, citing Islamic beliefs, he had objected to worshipping in the temple. He said that a Muslim person should not participate in the religious worship practices of other religions.
Maulana's latest comment on the marriage of Omar Abdullah and Nidhi Razdan has once again sparked a debate regarding inter-religious marriage and religious beliefs.
