Uttar Pradesh: An encounter in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, late on Thursday night shook the entire area. There was a lot of gunfire between the police and the miscreants. In this action, criminal Rihan Ansari, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, was killed, while one of his associates escaped taking advantage of the darkness. A constable has also been injured in the encounter.
Late at night the police received information that two miscreants riding on a bike were waiting for robbery from Jhinjhana towards Kaserwa village. As soon as the information was received, Kotwali police and SOG team reached the spot. As soon as the miscreants saw the police, they started firing, due to which the situation suddenly became tense.
During retaliation, constable Sumit Baisla posted at Shamli police station got shot. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where treatment is ongoing.
Rihan was seriously injured in police retaliatory firing. He was taken to the district hospital, but doctors declared him dead. His companion fled from the spot, and the search for him is ongoing.
According to the police, Rihan was a resident of Zakir Nagar, Okhla, Delhi. More than 90 cases of robbery, snatching and other serious crimes were registered against him. His criminal record extended to Delhi, Baghpat, Ghaziabad and Haryana.
Police have recovered a .32 bore Italian-made Beretta pistol, a country-made pistol, live cartridges, kiosks, a bike without number plate, a looted mobile phone, rings and cash from the miscreants. According to SP NP Singh, on Thursday evening, cash, mobile and ring were looted from two youths resident of Fatehpur at gunpoint. After this complaint, the police intensified the siege and an encounter took place late at night.
After an incident of robbery by a couple in Jhinjhana area in November 2025, a reward of Rs 50 thousand was placed on them. He was commanding his gang for the last ten years and was continuously committing crimes in the area. This is the second major encounter in the last 48 hours. Earlier on Tuesday night, STF had killed Banarasi Yadav, a shooter carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, in Etawah.
This action of the police is an attempt to curb the increasing looting in the area. At present, the search for the absconding accused is going on, and the police are busy investigating the entire network.
