Mathura: A fire broke out at a State Bank of India branch in Mathura’s Tarauli village late Wednesday night, damaging furniture and electrical equipment. A suspected short circuit is believed to have caused the incident. Prompt action by local residents and the branch manager helped prevent major damage, and no casualties were reported.
The incident occurred at around 2 am at the SBI branch located on the Akbarpur-Shergarh road. The bank was closed at the time, and all employees had left for home.
During the night, the bank’s generator repeatedly switched on and off, drawing the attention of Vijay, a local resident living nearby. Suspecting something was wrong, he immediately contacted branch manager Hemant Kumar and informed him about the situation.
Another villager, Vakil, helped by disconnecting the electricity supply, which proved useful in controlling the fire.
After receiving the information, Hemant Kumar reached the bank at around 3 am. Upon unlocking the premises, he discovered that a fire had broken out inside the building.
The branch manager joined local residents in extinguishing the flames with water. Chhata police also reached the spot after being informed about the incident.
The fire damaged some furniture and electrical equipment inside the bank. However, timely intervention prevented the situation from escalating, and no injuries or deaths were reported.
The SBI branch previously operated in the main market area of Tarauli village. It was relocated to a new building on the Akbarpur-Shergarh road on October 12.
The branch manager had closed the bank at around 7 pm on Wednesday before returning home. Senior bank officials have been informed about the incident, and an assessment of the damage is currently underway.
