Mathura: Amid the ongoing dispute over the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi site in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, a controversial statement by Maulana Jarjis Ansari has sparked an uproar. The Maulana claimed that Lord Shri Krishna was a Muslim by faith. Furthermore, he asserted that Shri Krishna used to offer Namaz (Islamic prayers) five times a day. Following this statement, Hindu organizations have expressed deep resentment towards Maulana Jarjis Ansari, demanding his immediate arrest and strict action against him.
During his speech, Maulana Jarjis Ansari cited a verse from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita: "Yogi yuñjīta satatam-ātmānaṁ rahasi sthitaḥ; ekākī yata-cittātmā nirāśīr-aparigrahaḥ". He claimed that this verse instructs devotees to worship using their entire body. He further stated that Lord Krishna himself used to offer Namaz five times a day.
In his address, the Maulana remarked that if followers of Hinduism were to read their scriptures attentively, they would come to appreciate Islam. He claimed that Hindu scriptures describe Islam as a universal religion—a sentiment allegedly echoed in texts associated with Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. Reports suggest that this statement by the Maulana is an old one, which has resurfaced and gone viral amidst the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute.

Did the Maulana Misinterpret Gita Verse?

However, the Maulana misinterpreted the aforementioned verse from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. In reality, this is the 10th verse of Chapter 6 of the Bhagavad Gita. Its true meaning is: "It is the duty of a yogi to constantly focus his mind, body, and soul on the Supreme Being. He should remain in solitude, keeping his mind and senses under control, and free himself from all forms of desire and attachment." There is no mention of Namaz or Islam anywhere in the verse.

Have Hindu organizations demanded his arrest?

Meanwhile, Hindu organizations have expressed strong objection to this statement by Maulana Jarjis Ansari. They have demanded the Maulana's immediate arrest and strict action against him.

What were Maulana Jarjis Ansari's controversial statement regarding women?

It is worth noting that Maulana Jarjis Ansari has previously made controversial remarks about women in 2022 as well. At that time, he had stated that a Muslim woman must always be ready to satisfy her husband's sexual desires, even if she is in the throes of labor pain. His statement had faced significant opposition back then as well.
