Mathura: Late Thursday night, an encounter took place between the police, supported by the SWAT team and members of the Babaria gang in the Farah police station area. During a vehicle check near the canal bridge on Parkham Road, two youths on a motorcycle opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing retaliatory fire, both sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. The police arrested them and admitted them to the hospital for treatment. According to the police, there had been a series of thefts in several villages within the Farah area. Investigations had revealed the involvement of the Babaria gang in these incidents.
Meanwhile, on Thursday night, the SWAT team received information that two gang members were preparing to commit a crime in the Farah area. Acting on this tip-off, the Farah police and SWAT team set up a blockade near the canal bridge on Parkham Road and began checking vehicles.
During this operation, the police attempted to stop two youths arriving on a motorcycle. The duo opened fire on the police and tried to flee. Both fell after being injured in the police's retaliatory fire. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sunil and Sanju, residents of Dausa, Rajasthan. According to the police, they were currently residing in the Magorra area of Mathura.
A search of the accused yielded two country-made pistols, five cartridges, the motorcycle used in the crime, two pairs of stolen anklets, and ₹10,700 in cash. Due to their injuries, both have been admitted to the hospital. The police are now interrogating the accused to gather information regarding other gang members and the theft incidents that occurred in the Farah area.
