Yogi Cabinet Clears 12 Major Proposals, Approves Backward Classes Commission for Panchayat Polls

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh approved many major decisions in the cabinet meeting held on Monday. A total of 12 proposals were approved in this first important meeting held after the cabinet expansion and assignment of departments to new ministers. In the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, many important decisions related to OBC reservation, metro expansion, health facilities and education were taken.

Has the formation of OBC Commission been approved?

The biggest decision of the cabinet meeting was regarding the formation of a dedicated Backward Classes Commission. The government has approved the formation of a new commission to decide OBC reservation in Panchayat elections. This commission will visit all 75 districts of the state and review caste-wise and economic data. After this, the commission will submit its report to the government, on the basis of which the system of reservation in Panchayat elections will be decided.

What will be the impact on Panchayat elections?

The government believes that the formation of the commission will end the long standing confusion regarding reservation in Panchayat elections. The final decision regarding reservation will be taken only after the report of the commission comes. It is believed that this may also clear the way for holding Panchayat elections.

What decisions were taken regarding metro expansion?

The cabinet also approved several proposals related to Lucknow and Agra metro expansion. The MoU related to the Charbagh-Basant Kunj corridor and East-West corridor of Lucknow Metro has got the green signal. The government claims that this will improve connectivity in the southern and other parts of the capital. The land transfer and station construction proposal for Agra Metro Corridor-2 has also been approved.

What major decisions were taken in the health sector?

Yogi government has also taken many important decisions to strengthen health facilities. The proposal to build a 1010-bed super specialty emergency center at Lohia Institute in Lucknow has been approved. Apart from this, the way has also been cleared for the expansion of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj. The government says that these projects will provide better treatment facilities to the patients.

What relief did veterinary students get?

A major decision was also taken for veterinary students in the cabinet meeting. The government has decided to increase the internship allowance of veterinary students from Rs 4 thousand to Rs 12 thousand. This is expected to directly benefit the veterinary students of the state.

Which other proposals were approved?

In the meeting, proposals related to the implementation of UP Public Service Commission Amendment Regulations 2026, implementation of Birth-Death Registration Rules 2026 and Sardar Patel Apex University in Mirzapur were also approved. Transmission line and pooling substation construction projects were also approved.
