Satya Nadella Downplays Elon Musk’s Warning About OpenAI Partnership

Tech News: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has unveiled GPT-5, describing it as the most advanced version of OpenAI’s language model so far. Soon after the announcement, Elon Musk made a pointed remark, suggesting that OpenAI could one day “consume Microsoft.” Nadella, unfazed by the comment, noted that in Microsoft’s five decades of existence, the company has faced—and overcome—many challenges.

Nadella explained that GPT-5 was trained using Microsoft’s Azure cloud infrastructure and will be rolled out across Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry. The updated model promises stronger logical reasoning, sharper coding support, and more natural human-like conversation skills. He highlighted that AI progress has been accelerating at a pace few imagined possible, recalling how GPT-4 first came to Bing just two and a half years ago.

Expanding AI Across Microsoft Services

The latest AI upgrade will be deeply embedded into Microsoft’s software ecosystem. Copilot in Microsoft 365 will now feature a smart mode capable of delivering more accurate, creative, and context-aware responses. Users will experience smoother handling of complex requests, better conversation continuity, and richer document analysis. For developers, GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code will handle larger, more intricate coding tasks. Within Azure AI Foundry, a new model-routing system will choose the most cost-efficient and high-performing AI model for each query.

Musk–Nadella Social Media Exchange

After Nadella’s post about GPT-5 on X (formerly Twitter), Musk commented that Microsoft’s close ties with OpenAI might eventually put the tech giant at risk. However, several users pointed out that Microsoft holds exclusive rights to deploy and market OpenAI models until 2030, strengthening its competitive edge.

In response, Nadella said with a smile, “People have been trying for 50 years—that’s the fun. We learn daily, innovate constantly, and build partnerships.” He also expressed excitement about the upcoming Grok 4 and Grok 5 models on Azure. Many praised his diplomatic tone, calling it a defining trait of Indian-origin leaders. Others noted that Microsoft’s financial strength and strategic positioning make Musk’s warning seem premature.
