New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to launch a new website on Wednesday, which was announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw last month, who said the upgraded platform has been designed to improve reservation efficiency and customer convenience. The new website will feature several upgrades and new features.

What is reason of new website?

There are frequent reports of the IRCTC website crashing during heavy loads. Furthermore, the demand for AI-powered features has increased over time. The new IRCTC portal will feature many new features.

Regarding the new website, the Railways said it will be faster, easier, and smarter than the old version. It will not only feature a new design but also simplify the entire ticket booking process.

What are the new features?

IRCTC's new website will be launched with new features and look. Users will notice a clean interface. The current IRCTC website often causes significant inconvenience to passengers due to the numerous advertisements, pop-ups, and disjointed sections.

IRCTC's new website is widely used for Tatkal ticket booking. The new IRCTC website makes Tatkal ticket booking easier. Millions of people in India book Tatkal tickets every day.

The new website will significantly increase booking capacity, enabling more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to the existing capacity of around 32,000 bookings per minute. At the same time, the upgraded Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will process over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, a tenfold improvement over the current capacity of approximately 4 lakh enquiries per minute, ensuring faster response times during peak demand.

What did the Union Railway Minister say?

A few weeks ago, students met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav at an event in Rajasthan and informed him about several issues with the current IRCTC website. They stated that they encounter several problems when booking tickets, including slow speeds, repeated captcha entries, and excessive pop-ups.

The Railway Minister then ordered officials to completely redesign the website. Now, the Railways has shown a beta version of the new website to students and taken their feedback before the launch
