Tech News: ChatGPT is free in India: OpenAI has taken a big step for India. The company will provide 5 lakh ChatGPT licenses to students and teachers across the country for free in the next six months. This distribution will be done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the ARISE School Network. It is considered to be the largest education-focused AI initiative in India so far.

The initiative is not just aimed at increasing technological access but also focuses on making AI a learning companion for students and teachers to develop digital skills, critical thinking, and deeper engagement in the classroom. OpenAI says that these tools will be meant to make learning more effective and enriching, rather than robotic or rote learning.

Free ChatGPT License Distribution

The free ChatGPT license will be distributed in three categories. Under the Ministry of Education, government school teachers from classes 1 to 12 will get direct access to ChatGPT. Through AICTE, students from technical and engineering institutions will be introduced to AI and given hands-on experience.

In addition, the ARISE School Network will allow K-12 teachers to adopt innovative learning methods in classrooms using ChatGPT. OpenAI has launched this initiative under the OpenAI Learning Accelerator, a program designed specifically for India to help both teachers and students embrace AI as a partner in education.
