New Delhi: Videos that go viral on social media often make people laugh or feel emotional, but sometimes they also become a topic of debate. Recently, a video surfaced in which a mother asked her three-year-old son a hypothetical question, and its impact was so profound that it angered people online.
The video which started in a playful way soon turned emotional after the mother asked her son, "What would you do if Mommy went away and didn't return?"
While not able to understand how to reply, the three-year-old kids mother continues to test him with light questions, like whether he would eat chocolates or do “bad things,” the boy firmly says no each time.
The child innocently replied, "I'll love your photo." But within seconds, his expression changed and he began to cry. When the mother asks him why he's crying, the child becomes even more emotional and asks, "Will you die? I'll pray to God that my mommy comes back soon."
Seeing the child crying, the mother finally reassures him that she's not going anywhere and won't leave him. The child then smiles and forms a heart with his hands. While the ending of the video is somewhat comforting, the emotional moment before it has disturbed people.
People reacted strongly to this video. Many users called it bad parenting and said that such questions should not be asked of young children. Children at this age are very sensitive. Such questions can create fear and insecurity in them. Some also questioned that it is not right to play with a child's emotions just for the sake of creating content.
This incident has once again raised the question of what the boundaries of parenting should be in the age of social media. Children are easily influenced and often don't fully understand the meaning of everything. This makes it even more important for parents to be considerate of their emotions.
