New Delhi: A unique coffee being served in a cafe in China's Zhejiang province has created a huge controversy on social media. Eggs were being used in this coffee, which are prepared by boiling them in children's urine. As soon as the matter came to light, people reacted strongly to it, after which the cafe had to remove this dish from its menu.

What is the whole matter?

According to reports, a different kind of Americano was being served in the cafe in the name of 'Special Coffee'. Its price was around 28 yuan i.e. around 300 to 350 rupees. The eggs used in this were first soaked in the urine of children under 10 years of age, then boiled and roasted and then added as a topping to coffee. It was told that it was also selling well on weekends.

Is it connected to any tradition?

According to locals, this method is part of an old tradition in the Dongyang region of China. There, ‘urine eggs’ are considered a traditional snack. It is believed that this cools the body, provides relief from heat and increases energy.

What do doctors say?

Medical experts have rejected these claims. Kidney experts say that urine is a waste product of the body and does not contain any nutrition. Doctors called it a health risk and also expressed serious concern about cleanliness.

Why did anger erupt on social media?

As soon as this matter came to light, people reacted strongly on social media. Many users called it unhygienic and dangerous. Some people raised the question of whether there could be any guarantee of safety of such food.

Is this dish discontinued now?

After increasing opposition and criticism, the cafe has removed this coffee from its menu. Although this dish is considered a cultural heritage at the local level, serious questions have now been raised about its acceptability.

Will this dispute affect tourism and local image?

Experts believe that the impact of such cases is not limited to just one cafe but can affect the image of the entire area. While some people support it as part of local tradition, a large number of tourists and the general public find it uncomfortable and unacceptable.

In such a situation, promoting such a dish can be counterproductive for the tourism and food industry, because in today's era, awareness about cleanliness and health has increased more than ever.
