Indian travel influencer Tanwi Dixit has sparked a major debate online after calling India the “most unsafe country for women” in one of her videos. In a reel shared on her Instagram handle @tanwidixit, she rated different countries on solo travel safety for women. While Vietnam and Thailand topped her list with high ratings, she gave India and Indonesia the lowest scores, saying women need to be extra cautious when traveling alone here. Her remarks quickly went viral and divided social media users into two groups—some supporting her views, while others strongly disagree.

India gets only a rating of 2

The influencer gave India only a rating of 2, which left many netizens shocked. In her video, Tanwi said, “It breaks my heart to say this, but out of all the countries I have visited, I feel India is the least safe place for women to travel solo.” However, she also added, “I am sure this situation will change soon.” In the video’s caption, she emphasized that a woman traveling alone must pay special attention to her safety.
This video has drawn mixed reactions from netizens. Some agreed with Tanwi and said that as Indian women, they too feel unsafe in their own country. On the other hand, many users dismissed the rating as absurd, arguing that safety depends on where exactly you are in India. One user wrote, “Even foreigners are safe in India.” Another said, “If I could, I would give minus 10.” Yet another user commented, “When it comes to women’s safety, India scores zero.
