The fraudsters swindled about Rs 8.7 crore from the elderly 734 times. This incident started in April 2023, when the elderly man sent a friend request to a woman named Sharvi on Facebook.

Initially the woman rejected the request, but a few days later the same woman herself sent him a friend request. Gradually the conversation started, which reached WhatsApp chat.

Divorcee Conned Elderly For Money

Sharvi told about herself that she is a divorcee and a mother of two children. She claimed that she is facing many problems. Sometimes on the pretext of children's illness and sometimes on the pretext of financial crisis, she kept asking for money from the old man again and again, and every time the old man agreed to help her.

How did the fraud start?

The matter did not end here. After some time, another woman named Kavita joined the conversation. She sent obscene messages and then asked for money in the name of treatment of a sick child. After this, a woman named Dinaz came forward, who introduced herself as Sharvi's sister. She said that Sharvi had died, and before dying, she had entrusted the responsibility of paying her hospital bill to the elderly person.

Women Trapped Elderly Through Threats

Dinaz convinced the old man by sending screenshots of WhatsApp chats and took money from him. When the old man asked for the money back, he threatened to commit suicide. After this, a woman named Jasmine came into the story, who introduced herself as Dinaz's friend and pleaded for help.

The old man sent him money too. New characters kept coming one after the other, and the old man kept getting trapped in the web of fraud. If we talk about fraud here, then Rs 8.7 crore was transferred between the months of April and January 2023, and all this was done 734 times. After losing all his savings, he borrowed Rs 2 lakh from his daughter-in-law and asked for Rs 5 lakh from his son. The son got suspicious and found out the truth of the whole matter.

Elderly Man Hospitalized After Scam

After the truth came out, the elderly man was so shocked that he had to be admitted to the hospital. Doctors said that he is suffering from dementia, a disease in which memory and understanding ability gradually decrease. On July 22, the elderly man complained about this to the cybercrime helpline.

After this, an FIR was registered on August 6. The police have started an investigation. The names of four women have come to light in this entire case. However, the suspicion is that all of them are the same.
