New Delhi: Most of the passengers travelling in airplanes sit in their seats and wait for food and drink service. Some people feel cold while others struggle with headaches or other problems. Many times passengers hesitate to ask flight attendants even for small needs. They feel that only those facilities can be found in the plane which are announced by the crew members. While some extra things and help can also be requested if needed during the flight. Recently, a flight attendant has told about such facilities on social media, about which many passengers are not aware.
If a passenger gets injured while sitting in the plane or gets a blister on his foot due to shoes, he can ask for a bandage or Band-Aid from the flight attendant. Similarly, in case of headache or swelling, one can also ask about ice pack. A first aid kit is carried on board the aircraft, although the contents and medicines may vary depending on the airline's regulations.
For female passengers, sanitary pads or tampons may be needed at any time. In such a situation, instead of hesitating, one should directly ask the cabin crew about its availability. Some airlines keep these things related to women's needs in their planes. However, these are not guaranteed to be available on every aircraft.
If a passenger needs hot water to make his tea or prepare instant food, he can request the crew member. Parents travelling with a small child can also ask for help in warming the baby's bottle. Additionally, passengers can also request extra water to drink or refill their bottles. However, water quantity and service rules may vary by airline.
Some passengers suffer from dizziness, nervousness or vomiting during air travel. In such a situation, an air sickness bag can be asked for from the flight attendant. It is also kept in a pocket already made in front of the seat. If the health is getting worse then the crew member should be informed immediately so that assistance can be provided as per need.
Many passengers face problems due to constant noise during long flights. In such a situation, one may ask about the availability of earplugs. Some airlines also provide amenities like eye masks, dental kits, pillows and blankets during long-haul flights. However, it is not necessary that these facilities are free on every flight and every class of ticket.
If there is less time left to catch a connecting flight or if there is difficulty in reaching the next gate, passengers can inform the cabin crew about this. Flight attendants can help you contact relevant airport staff. It is better for elderly and passengers with mobility issues to inform the airline in advance about such requirements.
It is important for passengers to understand that requesting an item from a flight attendant does not mean that it will be available free of charge on every aircraft. For example, IndiGo clarifies on its website that water cups are provided complimentary on domestic flights, while bottled water is available for sale. Similarly, some other facilities also depend on the ticket class, flight duration, stock in the aircraft and the policy of the airline. Therefore, if needed during the journey, one should ask politely and follow the instructions of the crew member.
