New Delhi: Comparing the law and order situation in India to that of Singapore, an Indian woman living in the South East Asian nation has gone viral on social media after sharing a video of herself walking alone on an empty road at 3 am.

What does the video show?

The video, which was uploaded on social media platform Instagram, shows the woman walking along on a deserted road late at night. In the caption to the post, the woman highlighted the stark contrast she felt between personal safety abroad and back home in India.

In the video clip, the woman, who has been identified as Kritika Jain, showed herself walking along deserted streets amidst calm surroundings and drew attention to her relaxed demeanour during the late night walk.

“It’s 3 am in Singapore and I am walking home. There’s no second thought, no checking behind me, and I don’t feel scared at all. Back in India, I would never even think of stepping out alone at this hour. But here it almost feels normal. And that’s the thing,” Jain wrote in the caption to her Instagram post.

“In Singapore, this is not a luxury. It’s just a regular part of life. A level of safety I don’t take for granted. It’s not the tourist spots or skyline that make me love this city. It’s this,” she added.

How has social media reacted?

The Instagram post by Jain quickly became viral on social media, gathering more than three lakh views within a short period of time.

The comments section saw a host of reactions from social media users, many of whom shared their own experiences and opinions.

“This hit hard because feeling safe should be normal, not something we have to celebrate,” one user wrote.

Another social media user voiced similar sentiments, “I have lived in Singapore and this is so true, you stop being constantly alert.” A third user said, “As a woman in India, this made me both happy and sad at the same time.”

Another used commented, “Safety is the real luxury and this video shows it so simply.”

Adding to the discussion, another comment read, “People talk about infrastructure and money, but peace of mind matters more.”
