Trending News: A strange case has come to light in Austria, which has left everyone stunned. A 29-year-old prisoner is in the news here. To take care of this prisoner (the world's heaviest prisoner), weighing about 300 kg, the government here has to spend 10 times more than the maintenance of an average prisoner.
This case has sparked a new debate in Austria. People are raising questions as to why the government is spending taxpayers' money on this prisoner who has committed a serious crime like drug smuggling, while it takes months for ordinary people to get treatment. According to local media reports, the police seized 45 kg of marijuana, 2 kg of cocaine, and more than 2,000 ecstasy tablets from the prisoner's house.
Judicial sources revealed that the Austrian government is spending about 1,800 euros (more than Rs 1.8 lakh) per day on this huge prisoner, while the maintenance of an ordinary prisoner costs only 180 euros (i.e., more than Rs 18,000).
The prisoner was initially held in Vienna's Josefstadt Prison, but his bed broke due to his excessive weight, after which he had to be moved to Korneuburg Prison.
It is said that special arrangements have been made in the jail, keeping in mind the health needs of this prisoner. An iron cot has been made for this. At the same time, nurses have been kept for 24-hour care.
