Rice flour - 1 cup, Coconut - 1 cup (grated), Jaggery - 3/4 cup, Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp, Ghee - 1 tsp (for making modaks), Water—as required

Preparing the dough
Add rice flour and some water in a vessel and knead a soft dough. Keep it covered for 10 minutes.

Preparing the filling
Lightly heat the grated coconut and jaggery in a pan. Add cardamom powder to it and mix well. Let the mixture cool.

Making Modaks
Make small balls of dough. Roll each ball into a round shape. Place the coconut-jaggery filling in the center and seal the edges to give it the shape of a modak.

Boil water in a steamer. Apply some ghee on the modaks and place them in the steamer. Steam for 10–15 minutes until the modaks become translucent and light golden.

If you want less sweetness, reduce the amount of jaggery. Do not knead the dough too much, or else the modaks may break.
