The biggest fear of losing a phone is data theft and fraud. But now theres no need to panic. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Government of India has launched the Sanchar Saathi app for the safety of citizens.

Sanchar Saathi is an official digital service of the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India. Its purpose is to provide security services related to mobile connections and devices to citizens.

What should you do first if you lose your phone on a train?
If your phone is lost or stolen while traveling on a train, dont panic. Calmly try to find your phones IMEI number, which is usually found on the phones box, bill, or Google account. Then, immediately go to the Sanchar Saathi app or website and file a complaint.

Why is IMEI blocking important?
The IMEI number is a unique identification for every mobile phone. When you block the IMEI, the phone no longer works with any SIM card or network. This prevents thieves from misusing the phone, nor can they use it to make calls, access the internet, or access banking apps.

What happens after a phone is blocked?
Once a phone is blocked, it cannot be used with a new SIM. If your phone is recovered in the future, the IMEI can be unblocked again using the Sanchar Saathi app. This process is also completely digital and easy.

Is a police report necessary?
Although an FIR is often not mandatory for the initial blocking, it is advisable to file a police report for better security and the possibility of recovering the phone in the future. This officially registers your complaint.
