Rape Cases That Shook India After Nirbhaya
Nirbhaya rape case
In December 2012, a 23-year-old woman named Jyoti Singh (known as Nirbhaya) was brutally gang-raped and tortured on a bus in Delhi. The attack caused outrage and protests, leading to stricter laws against sexual assault.

The gut-wrenching Nirbhaya rape and murder shook the country and the worlds conscience in 2011 and subsequently, laws were amended to make the country safe for women.
NCRB data on rape cases
NCRB revealed that the number of cases registered last year is 4,45,256, a 4% rise from last year. Delhi reported 3 rape cases daily, Pune has seen a rise of 28.34% when it comes to crime against women. All of that has turned out to be a mere eyewash. Numbers dont lie and if one glances through the data, the first thing that can be done is to shed angry tears of blood against the sheer failure of us, as a society, to give basic human dignity to the females in our nation.
Shakti Mills Gang Rape case
In Shakti Mills compound in South Mumbai five men, including a juvenile, assaulted a 22-year-old photojournalist. Reportedly, on 3rd September, an 18-year-old telephone operator reported a similar gang rape at the same location, involving three accused from the previous incident.
Ariyalur Gang Rape case
On December 2016, the union secretary of the Hindu Munnani and three associates perpetrated a horrifying gang rape and murder of a pregnant 17-year-old Dalit girl in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu.
Unnao Rape case
In June 2017, a 17-year-old girl in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, fell victim to a brutal gang rape. Seeking justice, she attempted self-immolation outside the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in April 2018.
Hyderabad shock
In November 2019, four individuals allegedly raped and murdered a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad.
Hathras Rape case
On 14th September 2020, four upper-caste men allegedly gang-raped a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras, UP. Her demise two weeks later sparked controversy when the police forcibly cremated her without her familys consent.
Shraddha Walker Case
Shraddha Walkar, a 27-year-old was dead on 18th May 2022 at the hands of her 28-year-old live in partner and boyfriend, Aftab Poonawala, in Delhi. The distressing details of the case emerged six months later, when Shraddhas father filed a missing persons report.
