Chennai: Major news has emerged regarding the formation of a new government in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Following two days of political maneuvering, sources indicate that the CPI(M), CPI, and VCK have decided to extend their support to the TVK, led by Thalapathy Vijay. With the backing of these three parties, the path for the formation of a new government in the state has now been cleared. Media reports state that, in light of these developments, Vijay is scheduled to meet the Governor today—marking his third meeting in as many days.

It is worth noting that with the support of these three parties, Vijay has now secured the backing of a total of 118 MLAs—the precise figure required to constitute a majority in the 234-member Legislative Assembly. The TVK itself holds 107 seats. Since Vijay won the election from two constituencies, he will be required to vacate one seat. In addition to these numbers, the Congress party, which had already pledged its support, contributes five MLAs. The three parties that extended their support today each hold two seats. Thus, Vijay now commands a clear majority, backed by the support of 118 MLAs.

Will TVK chief Thalapathy Vijay Stake Claim for Government Formation?

These latest developments are expected to bring an end to the two days of political uncertainty and resolve the ongoing standoff between the TVK and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. Furthermore, this has significantly bolstered his claim to form the next government. TVK sources revealed that Vijay has sought an appointment with the Governor for 4:30 PM this evening; it is anticipated that, having secured the support of key opposition parties, he will once again formally stake his claim to form the government.

What Did TVK Chief Thalapathy Vijay Say About Concerns Regarding Majority?

Media reports suggest that, around the same time, all the parties extending their support will hold a joint press conference to formally announce their decision. Meanwhile, P. Venkataramanan, the newly elected TVK MLA from Mylapore, expressed absolute confidence on Friday regarding his party's capability to form the government in Tamil Nadu, asserting that they possess the necessary numerical strength to cross the majority threshold. Amidst growing speculation surrounding government formation, he dismissed concerns regarding the party's lack of a standalone majority during an interaction with journalists here. When journalists asked him whether the party had secured the requisite numbers for a stable government, he firmly replied, "Yes." When asked about the schedule for the swearing-in ceremony, Party Treasurer Venkataramanan stated that an official announcement would be made shortly. He told the journalists, "We will provide you with the information within an hour."
