Kolkata: Even after facing defeat in the West Bengal election results, Mamata Banerjee does not wish to resign from her post as Chief Minister. She had refused to step down, alleging that the election was rigged. Amidst this situation, she has now updated the bio on her social media account. She has now listed herself as the Chief Minister during the previous legislative assemblies.

What does Mamata Banerjee's social media bio say?

The bio on Mamata Banerjee's X profile has been updated. Mamata has written: "Founder Chairperson, All India Trinamool Congress; Chief Minister during the 15th, 16th, and 17th Legislative Assemblies." Previously, her bio simply read: "Chief Minister of West Bengal."

Why Did Mamata Banerjee Stand Firm on Refusal to Resign?

Mamata Banerjee has categorically refused to resign following the Bengal election results—and this, despite the fact that Governor T. Ravi dissolved the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on May 7. Mamata asserts that the BJP "hijacked" the election. She stated that the party would approach the Supreme Court, alleging widespread irregularities during the vote counting process. According to party leaders, Mamata Banerjee adopted a firm stance during a meeting, declaring that the Trinamool would politically oppose a mandate obtained through manipulation. She reportedly remarked, "If they wish to impose President's Rule, let them do so. If they wish to dismiss me, let them proceed. Let this go down in history as a dark day."
