New Delhi: Vietnam-based company VinFast is strengthening its foothold in the Indian market. Simultaneously, it continues to introduce new models in its domestic market. In fact, the company has unveiled its second-generation VF8 eSUV in Vietnam. This marks the first model in its lineup to receive a generational update. While the design is entirely new, unlike typical generational updates, the company is offering the new-generation VF8 with a smaller battery pack.
Its claimed range is also lower, and compared to the previous model, it has also become smaller in size. The second-generation VinFast VF8 is equipped with a 60.13kWh battery pack. This battery pack is paired with a front-axle-mounted (FWD) electric motor that generates 228hp of power and 330Nm of torque. Its NEDC-claimed range stands at 500km. VinFast claims that the vehicle can be charged from 10% to 70% in less than 30 minutes.
Notably, the previous-generation model featured a larger 87.7kWh battery pack and was available in both FWD and AWD configurations. The FWD version generated 201hp of power and 310Nm of torque—figures that are 18hp and 20Nm lower than those of the new-generation VF8. However, with the FWD setup, the battery's NEDC-claimed range was 562km—62km more than the range offered by the new VF8.
With this generational update, VinFast has endowed the VF8 with an even more attractive and modern aesthetic. The headlights now sport a more aggressive look—a credit owed to the segmented, eyebrow-like DRLs. These DRLs are connected by a V-shaped lightbar. The black grille has been closed off and blends seamlessly with the front bumper. The central section of the bumper is also finished in black. Air vents are provided in the lower section of the bumper, helping to keep the EV's internal components cool.
Viewed from the side, the vehicle features newly designed 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. These are the same size as the wheels on the previous model. The window line now appears to sweep upwards towards the rear, giving the VF8 a more striking and attractive design compared to its predecessor. Gloss black cladding has been applied to the wheel arches and the lower edges of the doors to provide a contrasting look. Although the rear design of the new-generation VF8 has not yet been revealed, VinFast states that it features large taillights connected by the company's signature V-shaped LED strip.
The interior has also undergone a complete redesign. The new-generation model now features a smaller 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a departure from the 15.6-inch unit found in the previous model. However, the new VF8 also includes a digital driver display—a feature that was not previously available. The 2-spoke steering wheel is also new, though it retains the column-mounted drive selector stalk found in the previous model.
In terms of features, VinFast has announced that the new-generation VF8 comes equipped with dual-zone climate control with an air purifier, a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat with a memory function, and an 8-speaker sound system. For safety, it includes an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, a 360-degree camera, and an electronic parking brake. It is priced at 999 million Vietnamese Dong.
