New Delhi: A new player may soon enter the most competitive mid-size SUV segment of the Indian auto market. JSW-MG Motor India is working on a new SUV, which once launched can directly challenge popular vehicles like Hyundai Creta and Tata Sierra. According to reports, the company is preparing to launch this new SUV in the market as an alternative to MG Astor, because Astor did not get success as expected in the Indian market.
According to media reports, this upcoming mid-size SUV from MG will be based on the company's modern SIGMA platform. The same platform has also been used in the approximately 4.5 meter long MG One SUV sold in the international market. The biggest feature of this modular platform is that all three types of powertrains, petrol, hybrid and fully electric can be manufactured on it. This will give the company an opportunity to attract different types of customers through the same model line.
Experts believe that this new SUV can replace the existing MG Astor and ZS EV platforms. The Astor was launched in the petrol SUV segment while the ZS EV was the company's initial offering in the electric segment. However both models had limited success in the market. In such a situation, MG is now working on the strategy of bringing a completely new generation SUV with new technology and better features.
The mid-size SUV segment in India is one of the fastest growing markets, where Hyundai Creta has been the leader for a long time. Apart from this, vehicles like Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun also give tough competition in this segment. MG's new SUV is expected to compete directly with these models. The company can pay special attention to design, technology and connected features in the new car so that it can create a distinct identity in the segment.
According to reports related to the auto industry, MG is preparing to launch many new models in India in the next few years. These also include a new mid-size SUV, which can be introduced in the market around 2027. Through this, the company can target a large customer segment with all three options: petrol, hybrid and electric.
JSW-MG plans to rapidly expand its product portfolio in India. The company is emphasizing new technology vehicles, electric models and hybrid vehicles. Considering the increasing demand in the EV segment in recent years, MG wants to strengthen its hold with new generation technology and features. Under this strategy, many new SUV models can be seen on Indian roads in the coming time.
