New Delhi: Kia India has hinted at the entry of its new premium SUV Sorento for the Indian market. The company has released a new teaser on social media, which is being considered the clearest hint of Sorento's India launch. Even before this, Kia had announced the launch of electric and hybrid models and now it is believed that Sorento Hybrid could be the next big launch of the company after Syros EV. However, the company has not yet officially announced the launch date or technical details.
Kia's latest teaser shows a glimpse of the Italian city Sorrento. The company has asked people to identify this place with the help of Google Lens or AI. Auto industry experts are considering this as a hint towards Sorento SUV. Even before this, the company had hinted at bringing hybrid (HEV) and electric (BEV) models, in which Syros EV has already been introduced as an electric model. Now the possibility of launching Sorento Hybrid has become stronger.
According to reports, Sorento can be launched mainly with strong hybrid powertrain in the Indian market. In some reports, the possibility of a petrol variant has also been mentioned, while the chances of a diesel engine coming are considered less. The powertrain has not been officially confirmed by Kia as of now.
The new Sorento can be introduced as the company's premium 7-seater SUV. It is likely to get modern features like dual 12.3-inch digital display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control, 360 degree camera, premium audio system and level-2 ADAS. Apart from this, many connected car technologies and advanced safety features can also be provided in the SUV.
Kia has not disclosed the official launch date, but according to auto industry reports, the launch of Sorento Hybrid in India may take place from August to this year's festive season or October. There are also reports of unofficial bookings starting at some dealerships, although the company has not confirmed this.
Once launched in the Indian market, Kia Sorento is expected to compete with premium 7-seater SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan. On the basis of hybrid technology and modern features, Kia is preparing to establish its strong presence in this segment.
