New Delhi: Tata Motors is now gearing up to make a massive splash with electric cars on Indian roads. The first vehicle from the company's new 'Avinya' series is expected to make its market debut in early 2027. It is worth noting that the 'Avinya' will not be just another ordinary electric car; rather, it will mark the beginning of Tata's most premium and high-tech automotive journey to date. It will not only boast a futuristic aesthetic but will also feature next-generation software and capabilities. Let's delve into the full details of this story.
To turn this ambitious dream into reality, Tata Motors plans to make a massive investment of approximately ₹16,000 to ₹18,000 crore over the next few years. These funds will not be spent solely on manufacturing new vehicles; a significant portion will also be allocated to developing new automotive technologies and manufacturing components locally within India. The company's objective is to expand its electric vehicle lineup rapidly, ensuring that a compelling option is available for every type of buyer. Furthermore, Tata has already begun incorporating over 50 percent indigenously sourced components into its vehicles.
Alongside its vehicle development efforts, Tata is also actively working to alleviate concerns regarding EV charging infrastructure. The company plans to establish approximately 40,000 charging points across the country by 2027, with an ambitious long-term goal of eventually expanding this network to 1 million charging points. A particularly noteworthy initiative involves Tata's efforts to repurpose used EV batteries for energy storage applications, rather than simply discarding them. This approach will not only help reduce the overall cost of the vehicles but will also significantly minimize their environmental impact.
It is reported that the inaugural vehicle in the 'Avinya' series is likely to take the form of a premium SUV or a stylish 'Sportback' model. For this project, Tata is leveraging the advanced technology and software expertise of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). However, ahead of the arrival of the 'Avinya,' Tata is gearing up to launch the Sierra EV within the next three months to further strengthen its foothold. With this move, Tata will maintain its dominance across both the budget and premium segments.
